Laglagan Na! Sen. Bong Revilla admits Aquinos involvement in Corona's impeachment

Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, during his privilege speech on Monday, has shockingly revealed and admitted to the inappropriate and contemptuous involvement of former President Benigno Aquino III to the then ongoing impeachment proceedings against the late former Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Revilla's speech, accompanied by a complete powerpoint presentation, revealed

that Aquino personally asked him to vote to convict former Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012.

"Pare, parang awa mo na. Ibalato mo na sa akin ito. Kailangan siya [Corona] ma-impeach," Aquino allegedly told Revilla as the Senator quoted during his speech.

This was followed by an interrogative statement from Revilla implying the culpability of Aquino in the successful Corona impeachment.

"Tama po ba na habang nililitis ang dating Chief Justice na si Renato Corona ay kailangan makialam ang mismong Pangulo ng Republika sa isang prosesong legal na dapat ay independyente?" Revilla asked.

Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr., meanwhile, confirmed that Aquino did meet with Revilla prior to the Congress' convention to vote on Corona's impeachment but he denied the allegation that the said persuasion occurred.

It can be remembered that a total of 20 senators voted for Corona's imoeachment on grounds of betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.

Revilla, still in his privilege speech, has affirmed that aside from Aquino, he also was persuaded by then Senator Mar Roxas and Budget Secretary Butch Abad to vote for Corona's impeachment.

"Bumangka si Secretary Mar tungkol sa mga dahilan kung bakit dapat ma-impeach si dating Chief Justice Corona... Sabay sunod naman si Secretary Butch Abad, 'Magtulungan tayo, Senator'," he said.

Revilla, currently, is facing a plunder complaint before the Ombudsman for allegedly pocketing the biggest kickbacks from the alleged pork barrel scam amounting to P224.5 million.
