Yes! No Turning Back

Sad to say, some people nowadays turn away from the faith.

Some are teenagers who were raised by their Christian parents and grew up in Sunday schools. Yet they have gone astray in spite of being present at church most often. Some are pastors who used to faithfully minister their calling but had lost sense of direction because they headed their own way.

Some are leaders who almost gave up everything for the Lord but at the same time giving in to the sinful desires of the world.

Whether we are young or old, we must be watchful because we are not spared of such temptation. There are a lot of things that hinder us to see the right path so let's dig in deeper.

1. Trials and struggles

When tried, some easily give up and surrender. They mistakenly thought that the walk with God is a smooth-sailing journey, that's why they end up disappointed. They fail to realize that as they go through such, God is just testing their faith and leading them to a higher level to catch up to the level of suffering Christ has gone through.

2. Pride and fame

A lot of local and international celebrities had strayed in the faith because they got overwhelmed with fame and acknowledged themselves for what they have achieved. It is tragic to hear that former church singers, self-confessed believers, even members of the minister's household got into vices, immorality, and worse, suicide. Survivors testified they felt emptiness and this led them to see that God has shown them that next step to overcome pride is to kneel down and acknowledge the sovereignty of Him whose fame never fades.

3. Security and society

When we are in need. We really look out for God to be present in all of our life's circumstances. But admit it or not, there are times that we tend to forget God when we feel secured, when everything's alright, and when we are in control of things. The financial stability and material trend this world sells to us lead us to trade our secured faith with the temporary pleasures it brings. Also, the society we now live in lead us away from following God's standards and lure us to compromise with the crooked substandard policies this ill generation has instilled. It is only in solitude with God that we can feel secured and His presence is our greatest companion.

4. Love and lust

The distorted mentality of God's love can also point us to turn away from Him. How? God is love. He loves mankind so He gave Christ. But His love shouldn't be abused. Some believers became worse after accepting the faith for they thought God's love will spare them even if they commit sins. They forget that God is also just and He will get to account every one according to what he has done. And some, if they get reminded about God's justice, even justifies their crooked belief that God will still love them despite their indulgence to sin.

Also, lust-the desire of wanting what you can't have, can lead people to stray from the faith. This can be lust of the eyes or lust of the flesh. But one thing is for sure, failure to overcome this means it can overcome you and it can make you turn your back from God. These can be triumphed by intently studying His words and desiring to be filled by Him.

2 Chronicles 30:9 (NKJV) says:

"For if you return to the Lord, your brethren and your children will be treated with compassion by those who lead them captive, so that they may come back to this land; for the Lord your God is gracious and merciful, and will not turn His face from you if you return to Him.”
