Prominent Historian revealed unknown facts about Ninoy Aquino's so-called heroism

Prominent historian and educator Van Ybiernas shared in one of his published post some certain misconception regarding Ninoy Aquino’s so-called “selfless acts of heroism”. In his post, Ybiernas gave out certain historical accounts that rebuke the alleged media-induced notion about the late senator.

According to him, Ninoy’s democratic simulacrum is nothing but the result of media’s scheme, particularly that of ABS-CBN which was then operating under the direction and commands of the Lopezes.

THE TRIAL Aug. 27, 1973, Fort Bonifacio. Sen. Benigno Aquino | CTTO

“Magkaiba po ang kasaysayan ---na hindi maaring maging mali--- sa bersyon na pinaniniwalaan ng taumbayan ---na pwedeng maging mali,” Ybiernas started emphasizing the difference between history that is proven true and history that is believed by the people to be true.

Ybiernas claimed that as a historian, he always makes sure that his accounts were historically proven true and has applied appropriate measure and methodologies to come up with his historical conclusions. That however, does not guarantee that his historical claims will be acceptable to the public. He even pointed out that the media, which he referred to as the “gatekeepers” have always used the latter as their own reference of history.

Ptay tayo dyan!” wrote the professor.

Ybiernas then gave an example citing a particular interview of CNN Philippines’ Pia Hontiveros, where she talked about the so-called exile of the late Ninoy Aquino to America. That however was refuted by Ybiernas claiming that Aquino was never exiled. More importantly, his and Rizal’s case were absolutely different.

Given that, Ybiernas concluded that Ninoy Aquino actually abandoned his country for his own good and benefit.

That alone makes it inappropriate for him (Ninoy Aquino) to be considered a simulacrum of heroism like Rizal and Bonifacio.

Ybiernas concluded.
